Hummingbirds. . .

What attracts them to your yard. . .

Hummingbirds are attracted to the color red and orange. The shape is also important to hummers because of that long beak. . . the more tubular the blossom, the better the hummers like it. But, they will go to other colors, and to other shapes. I don't know if they are being non-conformist, or they are just colorblind. Or just not fully schooled in the art of selecting the proper shapes. So don't think only the following will attract them, you may find some new ones not on the "approved list of hummers favorites".

Using pesticides around hummingbird plants is a very bad idea. Killing garden pests will also eliminate the small insects hummingbirds rely upon for protein.
